Meet Dr Lourens

Dr. D.J. Lourens stands as a distinguished orthopedic surgeon, renowned for his proficiency in shoulder and hand surgery. His journey began as a general practitioner, where he served in remote regions of Africa, notably in Lesotho during the construction of the Katse dam.

Holding a medical degree from the University of Pretoria in South Africa, Dr. Lourens's academic journey has been marked by notable achievements. He earned his MBCHB in 1995, followed by a Master's in Sport, reflecting his dedication to holistic healthcare.

 

Specializing further, Dr. Lourens attained two orthopedic degrees in South Africa, culminating in the MMED orthopedics and fellowship of the College of South Africa (FCorthSA). He further honed his expertise through dual upper limb fellowships, focusing on shoulder and upper limb surgeries, including hand, wrist, and elbow procedures.

His commitment to professional growth extended globally, with fellowships from the Royal College of Australia, where he obtained FRACS Orth(AUS) certification, alongside specialised training in foot and ankle surgery.

 

Since 2013, Dr. Lourens has been a pivotal figure in the Australian medical landscape, specialising in shoulder to hand surgeries since 2008. Beyond his core specialties, he demonstrates a profound interest in sports-related injuries of the upper and lower limbs, backed by extensive surgical experience, including trauma surgery with nearly 5000 cases logged in South Africa up to 2012.

 

Currently, Dr. Lourens conducts surgical interventions across multiple hospitals in the Sunshine Coast, encompassing Nambour Selangor Hospital, Noosa, Birtinya, and the Friendlies Hospital, extending his services to the Hervey Bay and Gladstone regions.
